Ganesh chaturthi Neivedya. सुकामेवा पंचखाद्य नैवेद्य
Panchkhadya is a traditional Maharashtrian and Karnataka naivedya. In Karnataka it is known as Panchakhajjaya.
During Ganesh Chaturthi, panchkhadya is prepared in almost all Maharashtrian homes as prasadam and after arati, it is distributed as Prasad to the devotees
It is easy to make and is very healthy recipe. No cooking is involved.
Not only for festivals. it is good to eat at other times, especially in winter.
The best thing about panchkhadya is that it is made with dry fruits so you can enjoy this on your fasting days too.
How to make dry fruit panchakhadya
Ingredients
- Almonds- 15
- Cashew nuts - 15
- Dried figs - anjeer - 5
- Grated dry coconut - 2 tbsp
- Roasted poppy seeds - 1 tsp
- Raisins - 1 tbsp
- Rock candy sugar - 2 tbsp
- Kharik(dry dates) or khajoor(dates) - 6
Making Panchakhadya - Panchakhajjaya
- Add all the ingredients in a blender jar.
- Grind to rough consistency powder.
- Take out on a plate.
- Panchakhadya mixture is ready.
- You may shape it into laddoo or modak shape now.
Tips for making panchakhadya / Panchakhajjya:
You may serve in the powder form as it is or make into laddoo or modak shape. You may use modak mould to shape modak.
You may use plain sugar if khadisakhar(rock sugar/ khand sugar) is not available.
Using sugar is optional. You may skip sugar completely if you wish. The sweetness of figs+dates+raisins may be enough.
You may use date powder(kharik powder) which is easily available.
If the mixture is too dry to form laddoo or modak, you may add a few drops of ghee. Vegans can add coconut oil.
you may use desccicated coconut instead of kopra.
